I hate those headcanons, personally. It plays into the stereotype that a girl can't do boyish things or wear mens' clothes and still be female, or that a dude can't like girly things and still be a dude. Transsexuality and genderqueer-ness are more complex than "she wears pants" or "he likes flowers and cooking".

Seriously. Instead of defying gender roles and making for more fluid understandings of gender identity it's just reinforces the same old tired stereotypes of how boys can't wear dresses, only girls can, therefore if a boy wears a dress it's only because he's actually a girl. At the core of it I've actually got no problems with the idea, but the way I've seen it typically applied in fandom just rubs me the wrong way.

I mean, why isn't there non-binary...I don't know, Gerome headcanon floating around? Or Cynthia? Oh, right, because one doesn't wear a dress and the other one does according to their presented gender, therefore they're clearly cis-gendered, whereas despite the fact that Lucina enjoys dresses and traditionally feminine things she clearly masqueraded as Marth only because she's non-binary. Girls wear skirts. Guys wear pants.
