How did you get into Fire Emblem?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my friends was into it and she sent me both the GBA emulator and the FE7 file. I started playing to kill time during a vacation in another city, and then I was hooked.

Two friends of mine were talking about it constantly and I got curious. FE4 was technically my first, but I couldn't really get into it cause I kept losing units. FE7 was the first one I actually managed to get past the prologue in, and the first time I beat it I was so enthralled. :D Then I slowly got into playing the others...so far I've played every one except 5 and Shadow Dragon. And beaten every one except Gaiden.

i tried fire emblem 7 back when it came out but i was too much of a wuss to handle losing units so i ragequit when i accidentally stuck matthew in guy's range so i could recruit him and matthew predictably died

then when awakening came out everyone was super into it, so i figured i'd give it a shot

now i am hooked. ...on reading lps at least. i think i'm still too much of a wuss for the games but with lps you get all the fun of the story and the supports and you get to laugh at the lpers' misfortune when they get bad levels instead of experiencing that misfortune yourself so it's a win/win situation

Awakening lets you choose to turn off permadeath at the start of a new game via Casual Mode, actually! If you still want to play the games, I'd recommend starting with Awakening.

oh no awakening got me hooked precisely because of casual mode

now maribelle can go off to powder her nose all the time instead of dying horribly all the time because i'm bad at positioning characters with low defense stats

i was mostly talking about fe games that aren't awakening

Sorry, I misunderstood!

I think the only other game with Casual mode is Mystery of the Emblem, which only got an unofficial fan translation. Otherwise, I'm like you and I enjoy watching LPs of Fire Emblem instead of playing them since I tend to ragequit at permadeath myself.

yeah, i hope casual mode keeps being a thing you can choose. i mean most people reset if someone dies anyway so all it really does is make the game less tedious

i read a lp of mystery of the emblem, too! it was interesting although hahaha wow all those characters.

A friend of mine offered to loan me FE7 when I was in middle school. I played it a little bit and it didn't appeal to me. He moved away after that. A few summers later I found myself playing FE9, then I found FE10 and played that one. I've loved Fire Emblem since that, and I definitely went back and played FE7 and appreciated it.

Back when FE7 came out in English, I followed GBA releases pretty closely, and it was getting a lot of buzz and reviews calling it one of the best GBA games and a must-play for fans of RPGs and whatnot. I put it at the top of my Christmas list that year, got it, and was pretty much hooked from the prologue.

Completely by accident. I saw FE7 in the display case when it first came out, and I've always been a fan of fantasy. Thought it looked neat, and my Grandma was looking for something to get me for Hanukkah, so she got me that.

It was the best thing ever. I still remember playing it like crazy and thinking how hard it was, beating it and crying over Ninian's death and ahaha :') great memories. Replaying it now on my tablet.

Incidentally I'm the irl Fire Emblem enabler for my friends. I regret nothing.
